AN OIC FOR INDIANA

Indiana Jones closed up his office at the university and headed home, a happy spring to his step. He had done well in the race the day before and to his surprise, he had been given Katherine’s scarf after it had been taken away from Kronos. When she had seen that he had it, she had suggested he come over to her place the next evening to be properly *rewarded*.

Throwing open the door to his house, he called out, "Dad! Are you here?" But there was no answer. He was probably still at the museum, library or any other of a half a dozen favorite places he liked to go.

So much the better, he thought. He didn’t really want to have to answer his father’s nosy questions about why he was getting dressed up and who he was going out with. Going into his bedroom, he stripped off the old fashioned suit and tie he always wore while teaching and stepped into the shower. After getting cleaned up, he spent a while in front of the mirror fussing with his hair. He then shaved and liberally splashing some nice smelling aftershave on. He had decided to wear some crisply pressed

linen trousers and a nice open necked shirt he had picked up on one of his trips to Mexico. Lady Katherine had specifically told him to dress casually, but he didn’t want to give her a less then favorable impression of him.

After a last minute check of his appearance, he hastily wrote out a note to Henry Sr that he was going to be out all that evening and not to expect him home. Indy then picked up Katherine’s scarf off the table where he had laid it and held it for a moment against his cheek, enjoying the cool silky feeling and the lingering scent of Katherine on it. Taking a deep breath, he tucked it into his pocket and stepped outside into the street to make his way across town towards the condo Katherine shared with Connor MacLeod and John Clayton.

It didn’t take long to get there and he found himself having to kill a few minutes to avoid being early. He didn’t want to seem over eager, even though that was how he felt. There was something about the tiny Scottish woman that had attracted him from the first day that he had met her. They had just maintained a playful flirty relationship up until the No Pants Party, when she had made it quite clear to him that she was quite willing to take it to the next level. He knew she was Handfasted to the Highlander but he had heard they had a very open relationship.

Even knowing that, he gulped when MacLeod was the one who answered his knock on the door. It seemed like his intense eyes were boring a hole straight through him.

"I’ve come to bring Katherine back her scarf," he stammered under Connor’s scrutiny. He pulled the scarf out of his pocket and held it like a talisman in front of him.

Connor just laughed that wicked little laugh all the CLims had a habit of doing, and stepped aside to allow Indiana into the condo.

"Come this way," he said with a grin. He led the younger Professor Jones into the living room where two more CLims sat. Lord Greystoke and Paul Racine gave him the same appraising look as he walking into the room. One was bad enough, but three with that same piercing gaze was almost too much. Indiana began to shuffle nervously under their combined evaluation.

"So, we hear you are interested in pursuing a relationship with our lovely OIC," John Clayton said evenly as Connor pressed a glass of whiskey into Indiana’s hand. He looked at it for a moment, then gulped it down in one swallow.

His head spinning from the sudden rush of alcohol, all he could do was nod his head in reply to Clayton’s question.

Paul gave him a sympathetic grin as Connor pointed out a chair for him to sit in. "We thought you could use some pointers in how best to deal with Kat," Connor said. He was enjoying flustering the professor immensely.

"You might call this the standard Care and Feeding of the Lady Katherine lecture," John explained further. Then the three of them started bombarding Indiana with *friendly* advice from three different directions.

"Katherine is a sweet woman, but she also has a stubborn streak about two miles wide when she get her mind set on something," Connor began.

"And she has this bad habit of knowing what you are going to do before you have even thought about it," Paul added.

"It’s never, ever safe to lie to her," John said next. "She can sense dishonesty in a heartbeat. It would be much better to throw yourself on her mercy or flee for the hills."

"Katherine is a stickler for good manners," Connor said with a grin. "You can get away with just about anything as long as you are polite about it."

"She doesn’t lose her temper too often but when she does, look out!" Paul said earnestly. "You can tell just how pissed she is at you by the number of languages she calls you names over a very short period of time. They are inversely proportional by the way."

"If she ends up in Arabic, you are in deep trouble," John said seriously. "But if she starts out in that language, you had best flee the country. The three of us will be most likely hiding as well."

"Katherine is a very loving a giving person, Indy. But she has a great deal of trouble asking for any help or assistance. We try to realize that and anticipate any of her needs. She will never ask herself. We have to figure it out on our own," Paul added with a grimace.

"She also doesn’t know when to quit," Connor said with a wicked grin. "Personally I’ve never know her to stop at less than five times when she gets fired up. And that is when she was very tired to begin with." He laughed at the blush that rose to Indiana’s face as he realized what Connor was talking about.

"But she usually lets us poor ordinary mortals get by with just three times in a row," John added, chuckling at look of relief on the poor guys face.

"Besides us, Katherine has some special relationships with several other men here in town you might want to be aware of," Paul said next.

"There’s Rayden, the god of thunder and lightning for one. They share a very special friendship. She is also very close to both Dr Adams and Dr Giles."

"Katherine also has some very strong religious beliefs," Connor declared. "And as her *family*, we have made the choice to attend whatever services she wants to go to with her. She would never ask this of us, we have decided to do this entirely on our own." Both John and Paul nodded their heads in agreement to that.

"But the main thing to remember above all," John said as he leaned forward to make the next point very clear, "is that Connor and Katherine have had a relationship that has lasted for over 413 years. There is a bond between the two of them that transcends all the relationships she has with the rest of us, no matter how close or how pleasant." He glanced over at the Highlander who just ducked his head and grinned in response.

"So, knowing all this, are you still interested in going to the next level with Katherine?" Paul asked. Indiana gulped and nodded his head. Even being triple-teamed by these three CLims wouldn’t change the way he felt about her.

"Good!" John Clayton said firmly as he opened a folder that was laying on the coffee table as Connor filled up everyone’s glasses with another shot of whisky. "One little piece of paperwork needs to be done first. This came from the Office of Non-Highlander Affairs for you and they want you to sign it."

"Wha.. What is it?" Indiana asked, a confused look on his face.

"It’s a form for you to sign stating that you accept the Lady Katherine as your official OIC, Indiana," John said with a smile as he handed a pen to the bemused Professor. He hesitated just for a second before leaning over and eagerly signing his full legal name, Henry Jones Jr, on the paperwork. He then stood up with a bright smile on his face.

Connor took the paperwork and pen from him and shook his hand with a firm grip. "Congratulations! Welcome to our little family." As he stood open-mouthed at this turn of events, the other two men congratulated him and shook hands with him as well. The refilled glass of whiskey was once again pressed into his hand and Connor offered a toast to Katherine and her newest charge, Indiana Jones.

After Indiana had gulped that drink down as well, Connor pulled Katherine’s scarf out of Indy’s pocket and tied it loosely around Indiana’s neck. The three men then steered him out the living room door and to the bottom of the stairs.

"Second door on the right," Connor said with a grin. "The rest of us will be going out to Joe’s to celebrate this auspicious occasion."

As he made his way up the stairs he could hear the wicked little chuckles of the CLims follow him as he made his way to the bedroom where Katherine lay waiting for him.
